Flesh In Frame

Medium: Copic Marker, pigment liners, photoshop.

This was a pretty good example of how a concept can evolve into something ENTIRELY different in the finished product.

This is a poster advertisement for a fictional tattoo convention in D.C. (Yeah, like DC would EVER have a tattoo convention. Ha ha hahaha.)

The illustration I chose to use was a japanese yakuza woman that studied in Hun Gar, which is southern mountain kung fu, and requires an intense amount of muscle. As some poeple thought that muscles on tattooed women was unbecoming, I deleted the frame that accentuated her arm.

(the initial illustration is in fact [link] , but as most poeple reading my formal artist statements have no idea what a Thrashing Dragon is, this lowdown worked enough for me.)

A lot of effort went into the typography.
I decided that a David Carson sort of type treatment would make up for the art nouveau frame that i never finished, and made an interesting cropping of the image.
